Tally is the most-used accounting software in India, but it's not built for managing a CA practice. Here's how Chartrd complements (or replaces) Tally for CA firm workflow.
Tally is bookkeeping software. Chartrd is practice management software. Different jobs — but here's why CA firms often look at both.
Tally and Chartrd solve completely different problems. Tally is bookkeeping — recording transactions, generating P&L statements, computing GST liability from your books. Chartrd is practice management — tracking which of your 100+ clients owe which filings, assigning work to staff, sending reminders, and managing the operational side of your CA firm. Most CA firms need both. Tally (or its alternatives) handles the books for each individual client. Chartrd sits one level above, tracking the firm's relationship with all of those clients. Replacing Tally with Chartrd doesn't make sense; using them together is the standard workflow for modern Indian CA practices.
No. They solve different problems. Tally handles bookkeeping (recording transactions, generating P&L, computing GST). Chartrd handles practice management (tracking deadlines, managing clients, communicating, and assigning work to your team).
You can export client lists from Tally as CSV and import them into Chartrd. Transaction-level data stays in Tally — Chartrd only needs client master data (name, GSTIN, PAN, contact info, applicable filings).
Tally shows you due dates per company file. If you have 100 clients, you have 100 separate Tally files — and no consolidated view. Chartrd gives you a single dashboard across all clients, with assignments, status, and reminders. It also handles client communication, which Tally doesn't do at all.
Direct integration is on our roadmap. Currently you can export client master data from Tally to Chartrd via CSV, then maintain client records in Chartrd while continuing to use Tally for bookkeeping.
